Starting in the 1950’s “The Message” of June 10, 1935 was recorded on wire taping devices. In the 1960's Analog Audio Tape made its debut. The late 1980's brought the introduction of Digital Audio on CD-ROMs.
By the turn of the century the next step of content delivery was here with various speaker meetings, workshops and retreats being available for download from websites across the internet. These were primarily in the following three formats:
1. Windows Media Player
2. Real Audio
3. Quicktime
The availability of bandwidth, the speed of processors and the art of compression have progressed to the point where in the 21st century Podcasting was born. The following is from Wikipedia:
“Podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). It became popular in late 2004, largely due to automatic downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers.
Podcasting is distinct from other types of online media delivery because of its subscription model, which uses a feed (such as RSS or Atom) to deliver an enclosed file. Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated "radio shows," and gives broadcast radio programs a new distribution method. Listeners may subscribe to feeds using "podcatching" software (a type of aggregator), which periodically checks for and downloads new content automatically. Some podcatching software is also able to synchronize (copy) podcasts to portable music players. Any digital audio player or computer with audio-playing software can play podcasts.”
On August 26, 2005 Sobercasting.org went online, making various audio programs such as Speakers, Workshops and Retreats easily accessible for listening on your computer or portable media device.
Come back often as we demonstrate the techniques to use Podcasting to deliver the message of "Sobriety in the 21st Century" - Thus the name Sobercasting! We will have regular podcasts, enhanced podcasts and video podcasts that will demonstrate the techniques. As of February 3, 2006 we began streaming AA speakers and workshops on internet radio. See our limks page for the non publizised link to the stream. The AA message delivered 24 hours a day 7 days a week around the globe on our own private network.
